Dean Fernholz graduated from Mankato State University (now the University of Minnesota) in 1970. Dean started his career with the 3M Company in the Central Research Division working on government Air Force projects.
In 1972 he went to Overton Chemical in Sumner, Iowa and began his career in detergents. In his role with Overton he was the Technical Director of research and oversaw the quality control with the business. This was the birth place of Dean's long line of products.
In 1982 Dean launched the first successful detergent division for a pressure washer business when he started the Hotsy Detergent Division. Under Dean’s skillful guidance and development the impressive line grew to Landa, Shark, Spraymart, Karcher and many private label detergent product lines.

In 2004 Dean started Hydrus Detergents. This business is continues to grow under his skillful guidance and the products have changed and continually improved over the products life cycles.
